I'm the kind of person likes to get away from knitting a swatch if I possibly can. So I have come up with several methods for just starting a piece and knitting unti it fits. Hats are perfect for this kind of knitting, and here are four patterns that give you the freedom to "Just Go!"

- No Measure Hats: I wanted to sit down and knit a hat without measuring anything or knitting a swatch, so that's what I did! First you knit the band until it fits, join it with an invisible seam, and pick up sts to finish top of the head. Unlimited variations.
- Slip Stitch Hats: This is a variation of the No Measure Hat using slip stitch A wonderful three-colored pattern knits around your head to join in a perfect fit. Can be made to any size. A good project for scrap yarn.
- Aztec & Field of Sheep Hats: Knit in the round from the top down. It's easy to get them to fit your head. You start with an I-cord in the middle of the hat, then increase until it is the circumference of your head. A very nice way to make a hat. Your choice of two charted patterns: Aztec designs or a field of sheep.
- Crochet Hat, Tam & Headband: Quick to crochet in any size. these hats are the rage with teenagers. Make it with hemp and you'll have a hot item.

Yarn Suggestion: Good with virtually any type of yarn. Great for scraps! Will need approximately 3-5 ounces, depending on size.
