Yarn Suggestion: This sweater is attractive in a lighter weight yarn. Traditionally done in a light, or white color. Will need approximately 20-24 ounces, depending on size.
This sweater is knit in the round from the top down. It can be made to any size by increasing or decreasing the number of sts between vertical designs. Cable patterns are given in easy-to-follow diagrams. Quite striking! It’s easy to get it to fit because you can try it on as you go.

It is a bit challenging to get started on this sweater, but once you have the collar started, and get through the first rows of the knit charts, it is really fun to be making such a magnificent thing!
There are two cables going down the front and back of the sweater with interesting patterns in between. The knit pattern is actually quite intuitive and becomes easy as you go.
The download pdf pattern has big print and a large knit chart to make it easy. Can be printed out and also works well on a tablet. The pdf file is in two columns so you can swipe it larger for easy reading.

03sw Top Down: Raglan Color & Texture Sweater

Yarn Suggestion: This sweater is great with any size yarn, and particularly suited to designer style, variegated yarn. Perfect for handspun or that crazy yarn you couldn’t resist buying. Will need 20 to 24 ounces, depending on size.
Knit in the round from the neck down. Pattern on the yoke is created by dip-dying yarn, then you knit one color and purl the other. The result is interesting and mystical. Everyone will wonder how you did it!
This sweater has raglan sleeves which are created without any seam needed. When you are done knitting, you just put in on and go!

Skill Level: Advanced. Must have a good concept of sweater shaping to succeed with this sweater. Once you get going on the entrelac, you will find it easy to do.
Yarn Suggestion: Best with a fine to medium weight yarn. Will need approximately 24 to 28 ounces, depending on size.
Entrelac squares are knit one by one, each “row” with a different color. It’s like weaving a basket. This sweater is knit from sleeve to sleeve. Diagrams help with the entrelac design. The dimension of the squares determine the size. Diagrams in the pattern help you get going with this interesting form of knitting. Sweater is bulky, oversized.
This sweater can be knit to any size with a wide variety of yarns. As with all our patterns, the secret is in the math calculations. The entrelac makes the calculations a little challenging, but this “oversize” sweater is very forgiving in its final fit. It can be made with your selection of colors. Knit from the neck down. You can add any patterns that you like. I did mine with a band of color at bottom of yoke and cable on the body. It’s easy to get it to fit because you can try it on as you go.

Skill Level: Intermediate. A nice fitting sweater with drop sleeves and easy color patterns.
Yarn Suggestion: A fine or medium weight yarn will show off the color patterns best, but is also fun with bulky. Will need approximately 16-18 ounces main color, and 3 oz each for second and third colors, depending on size and weight of yarn.
This sweater is knit from the bottom ribbing up, with gussets at armpits. Large collar keeps your neck warm. Easy color design is fun to do. I made mine with a soft, soft cormo wool dyed in earth colors. One of my favorite sweaters to wear.

Start at one sleeve and knit all the way over to the other. Measure right and it will fit like a glove! Can be made on a knitting machine. It’s easy. Very easy to make vertical stripes.

Fun seams are the design element. You knit eight rectangles and join them with a special stitch and brightly colored yarn. Sleeve panels are made to fit with easy decreases. Knit by hand or machine. Small panels make this a good carry-along project.

16SW Bottom Up: Cable Knit Sweater
Skill Level: Advanced. The complication in this sweater is getting your calculations done (may need aspirin!), and getting the hang of the cable patterns. After that, it is sweet brainless knitting to the end.
Yarn Suggestion: Best with a fine to medium weight yarn. Cable sweaters, such as this, are traditionally done in a light or white color. But mine was really fun in maroon. Will need approximately 22 to 24 ounces, depending on size.
Knit from the bottom up with an interesting series of cable and texture patterns. Cables start on saddle shoulder and go down to wrist. Design gives a nice square fit to the shoulders. I knit mine with a soft cormo wool that is a delight to knit and wear.
This sweater has a very nice fit. The saddle shoulders are better for shaping than shoulder pads. A very fun sweater to knit.

Yarn Suggestion: This sweater would be good with almost any size or type of yarn. Will need about 20 to 25 ounces (depending on size). A great option for a child size sweater.
This ancient clothing technique can be woven, knit or crochet in many variations. All you do is make a square with well-placed slits and fold it over for the arms. Short sleeves come to the elbow.
This style is sometimes called the “Bog Shirt.” Samples of this design, made from cut skins, have been found in archeological digs – and are one of mankind’s oldest clothing designs. It is still a fantastic way to make a shirt for modern knitters.

Skill Level: Experienced. Once you get the hang of the lace pattern on this sweater, it is not too hard. the actual shaping is pretty easy and straight-forward.
Yarn Suggestion: Best with a fine to medium weight yarn. Will need approximately 14 to 22 ounces, depending on what type of fiber you are using, size and length of sweater. Mine is made with a very fine flax, and weighs 14 ounces.
Ready for some lace? I knit my sweater with lovely Euroflax linen yarn. It has a wonderful drape and feel. Any fine yarn will do. Sweater is knit from the bottom up. A modified raglan decrease forms the yoke which is finished with saddle shoulder. No need to shape the neck. It’s like magic! Then sleeves are joined at gusset and worked to cuff. A delightful experience.
