Thinking about starting to knit lace knitting patterns? Good for you! Don't be afraid, but start with something simple like a few sample swatches, so you won't feel tense through the project. 

Pick out a lace pattern which isn't that difficult, and cast on enough stitches so you will be working the stitch pattern through several times in each row. A great place to start is with the knitting videos on Free-Knitting-Pattern.com. Follow the instructions exactly and in a linear manner (no room for right-brain thinking when starting lace). 

The first few rows are the hardest because it usually doesn't make much sense. Stick with it and after a few repeats of the pattern you should start seeing the lace emerge. If you don't.... rip out and start all over.

Once you master the knack of knitting lace patterns, you'll be hooked forever and start making the most beautiful knit items.
