Top Down Sweaters

Knitting Patterns listed in this section are all knit from the top down. Knitting a sweater from the top down is a great method for shaping, and is easier to get a correct fit because you can try your work on as you go.

This sweater is knit in the round from the top down. It can be made to any size by increasing or decreasing the number of sts between vertical designs. Cable patterns are given in easy-to-follow diagrams. Quite striking! It's easy to get it to fit because you can try it on as you go.

Top Down: Raglan Color & Texture

Skill Level: Intermediate.
Yarn Suggestion: This sweater is great with any size yarn, and particularly suited to designer style, variegated yarn. Will need 20 to 24 ounces, depending on size.

Knit in the round from the neck down. Pattern is created by dip-dying yarn, then you knit one color and purl the other. The result is interesting and mystical. Everyone will wonder how you did it!

Top Down: Lace Knit Sweater

Skill Level: Experienced.
Yarn Suggestion: Best with a fine to medium weight yarn. My blouse is made with exotic spindle-spun cashmere and weighs less than 12 ounces. You may need more yarn, depending on size and weight of yarn.

Something to do with all that spindle yarn (or any kind of yarn for that matter . . .) This blouse is another "no-measure" sweater that starts at the collar and increases down through a raglan yoke.
